Is Cloud Matcha As Dreamy As It Looks?

If matcha has taken over your social media algorithm, then it’s likely you’ve noticed content creators creating cups of cloud matcha. It’s drinks like these that you can add your spin on that hit the spot during these hot summer days. You can make each cup uniquely your own with endless customization opportunities. Whether you prefer a sweet drink or something strong (and green), there’s something for everyone. It’s simple to make and truly embodies the word “cloud”. Plus, it’s a fun way to treat yourself at home.

It’s no surprise that all these popular coffee chains include a frothy cold foam option in their drinks. It’s a nice way to top off a drink (and make it Instagram worthy, too). Now, a new drink has taken over the internet with its fluffy texture, ideal for those who are not coffee fans or just looking to try something new.

What is cloud matcha?

Similar to the popular drink cloud coffee, cloud matcha is an iced drink that is just as frothy, with matcha whipped together to give it a cloud-like appearance. The base of this drink can take many forms, with some choosing to pour milk over the ice first. Others use coconut water, as cloud matcha allows you to customize it to your preferences. To create this drink, matcha powder and cream are especially required to bring it together, or a vegan cream if you’re dairy-free. For best results, matcha powder meant for cold whisking is the safest option.

How can you make cloud matcha?

To make your cloud matcha, start by filling a glass with ice and pouring in your preferred base. Adjust the amount to suit how strong or creamy you would like your drink to be. If you prefer your drink to be more creamy, simply add more milk, but make sure to leave room at the top for the frothy matcha at the end.

Then, it’s finally time to whip up your matcha. Pour cream into a glass and then sift your matcha powder into it using a fine mesh strainer. Whip the cream and matcha until it becomes soft. The goal is for it to be smooth and fluffy in order to bring about that cloud feeling.

Once your cloud matcha is ready, pop a straw in and taste what could be your next go-to drink. If you’re feeling adventurous, don’t hesitate to try a drizzle of honey or vanilla syrup to add some additional flavour. Trust me, a simple addition can make all the difference, and this is coming from someone who couldn’t understand the hype around matcha at one point in time (don’t worry, I’ve learned). And I don’t know about you guys, but after trying this, coffee shops just might be seeing me less from now on!
