These Viral Krispy Kreme Donuts Are Taking Over

If you thought donuts couldn’t get any better, TikTok just proved you wrong. A new viral food trend is taking over feeds everywhere, and it’s all about turning soft, glazed donuts into something super crispy. This crispy Krispy Kreme donut trend involves pan-frying classic glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme until the sugary coating caramelizes into a crunchy, golden crust.

Like many viral food trends, this one is simple and extremely tempting to try at home.

The trend started gaining traction after creators began experimenting with heating donuts on a stovetop. In a now widely circulated TikTok, @brittneykittyeats tries what she calls a “Korean grilled Krispy Kreme,” placing donuts in a pan over medium heat. As the glaze begins to melt and sizzle, it transforms into a caramelized shell. “It smells so good”, she says as the sugar cooks, later reacting with shock at the final result: a perfectly crisped exterior with a soft, warm inside.

The contrast is exactly what’s making people obsess. The frying process intensifies the sugar already present in the glaze, creating a texture that’s somewhere between a donut and a creme brulee. The outside gets crunchy while the inside stays fluffy and melts in your mouth.

Other creators have jumped on the trend with their own twists. TikToker @rachelhaneats keeps it simple, letting the donuts crisp up in a pan and stating,” I didn’t think Krispy Kreme could get any better, but you guys need to try pan frying them.” Meanwhile, @shecyrusx offers a bit of a learning curve, noting that timing is key. Fry them for too long, and they can burn or lose that perfect texture. According to her, the sweet spot is about one to two minutes per side to achieve that golden, caramelized crunch.

Of course, not everyone follows the rules. @leiahwithdacamry cranks the heat up high and experiments with donuts and even a cinnamon roll, even joking about adding ice cream on top. Her Takeaway? Frying the donuts “intensifies every sugar granule,” making each bite even richer and more indulgent.

Part of what makes this trend so appealing is how accessible it is. There is no complicated recipe or hard-to-find ingredients, just donuts and a pan. It’s a quick, low-effort way to elevate a store-bought treat into something that feels new and exciting. Plus, the dramatic, sizzling, and glossy finish makes it perfect for TikTok visual appeal.

But like many viral food hacks, it’s not without its risks. The high sugar content means donuts can burn quickly, and it might set off a smoke alarm or end up with an overly dark batch of donuts.

The trend also taps into a larger pattern on TikTok: reinventing familiar foods. Whether it’s air-frying, freezing, or now pan frying, creators are constantly finding ways to remix everyday snacks into something viral. In this case, it’s taking a beloved classic and adding a crispy twist that feels both indulgent and innovative.

So is it worth trying? If you’re a fan of donuts and don’t mind a little trial and error, the answer is probably yes. At the very least, it’s a fun experience, and at best, you might discover your favorite way to eat a donut.
