Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day

Sweet treat connoisseurs listen up. Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day is back again for a day full of free ice cream. This dairy filled event is less than two weeks away, so get ready to fill your sweet tooth fix entirely for free. Nothing beats a no-cost treat after dinner, and as someone who purchases a pint of Americone Dream and Half Baked every time I grocery shop, Free Cone Day has become my SuperBowl.

How can you get in on the free scoop?

As an annual tradition for Ben & Jerry’s, Free Cone Day is a way for the company to say thank you to their ice cream loving fans. The event will be taking place at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop locations on Tuesday, April 14. If you go into your nearest Scoop Shop from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., you will be able to snag a free scoop of any Ben & Jerry’s flavor available. Don’t worry — there’s no fine print or purchase necessary. You don’t even have to download a mobile app. You can simply show up and retrieve your freebie. The best part? There is no limit to how many free scoops you can get. If you want to try a new flavor, or get another round of your go-to, you can get back in line for another free treat. I recommend trying Phish Food or Everything But The, two flavors that have been creeping their way up my favorites list.

How did Free Cone Day start?

The first Free Cone Day took place in 1979 at the first Ben & Jerry’s location in Burlington, Vermont. The event was created to celebrate customer appreciation after Ben & Jerry’s first year of business following their opening in 1978. In 1984, the first Free Cone Day outside of the Vermont location was celebrated, in Saratoga Spring, New York. Almost a decade later in 1993, Ben & Jerry’s was feeling the success of their delicious–and innovative– ice cream flavors. It was that year that Free Cone Day became a nationwide day of free scoops for all Scoop Shops across the nation. Just seven years later in the year 2000, Free Cone Day went global, bringing free scoops to the entire world. Read more about Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day history on their website

Free Cone Day is a celebration of the best thing in the world–ice cream. I have made it a tradition throughout my time in college to walk to the nearest Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop with my best friends and celebrate the end of the semester in fashion. There’s truly no better way to kick-off final’s season than with a free taste of my favorite ice cream brand. Maybe this year I’ll even switch things up and try a new flavor, but only after I’ve already secured my first scoop of Churray for Churros.
