Butter-Dipped Ice Cream Is Blowing Up On TikTok

TikTok has introduced us to some pretty wild food trends; butter-dipped ice cream might be one of the most unexpected yet. What started as a niche treat at a grocery store has now turned into a full-blown viral moment, pulling in millions of views and reactions across the app. And honestly? People can’t stop talking about it.

The original video comes from @stewleonards, a beloved regional grocery store known as the “Disneyland of Grocery”. In the clip, a classic vanilla soft serve cone gets dipped not in chocolate, not in caramel, but in warm melted butter. The finishing touch? A sprinkle of flaky sea salt. The result is a glossy hardened shell that looks oddly similar to chocolate dip, but tastes completely different.

🧈🍦Millions and millions of views later, our Butter-Dipped Ice Cream Cone made headlines everywhere including local and national news. Some raved about it. Some said no way! 😂 Now that the dust—or should we say sea salt—has settled and it’s one of our most requested cones, we have to know: Are you Team Butter Cone or still not convinced? 👇 #ButterDippedIceCream #StewLeonards #ViralFood #IceCream

Soon after, food content accounts like @devourpower amplify the trend, describing it as “ vanilla soft serve dipped in warm melted butter topped with sea salt,” emphasizing how hot butter creates a magic hardened shell. That combination of textures- cold, creamy ice cream with a rich, salty coating is exactly what’s fueling the obsession.

Naturally, TikTok creators everywhere had to try it for themselves. Some like @foodwanderer even recreated it at home. Without access to Stew Leonard’s, they melted butter, added salt, and poured it over soft serve, comparing the flavor to a buttered popcorn Jelly Belly. Surprisingly, the butter wasn’t overpowering. Instead, it added more of a texture than a strong taste, while the salt brought everything together into that addictive sweet and salt combo.

And then, things went even more viral when Megan Thee Stallion joined in.

In her TikTok @theestallion, Megan took fans along as she tried the butter ice cream for the first time. Her reaction? A mix of curiosity, chaos and enjoyment. At one point she rated the ice cream a 10 out of 10, clearly impressed by the flavour. But like many viewers, she also questioned the concept itself, wondering if a caramel version might work even better.

So why is this blowing up now?

Part of it comes down to contrast. Butter on ice cream feels wrong at first. We associate butter with savory foods: toast, popcorn, pasta, not dessert. But TikTok thrives on that exact kind of unexpected combination. It’s the same reason trends like olive oil ice cream or cheese foam drinks took off. The curiosity factor is impossible to ignore.

But let’s be real, not everyone is sold.

Some people are side-eyeing the whole thing, saying it looks greasy or unnecessary. Others are fully convinced this is just a stunt for views. And honestly? Both can be true. But that’s exactly why it’s blowing up.

At the end of the day, butter-dipped ice cream isn’t just about the flavor. It’s about the experience. It’s about trying something that sounds a little ridiculous, filming your reaction, and joining a conversation that millions of people are already part of.

Would I try it? Maybe. Does it feel wrong? Definitely. But that hasn’t stopped anyone yet. And if TikTok has proven anything, it’s that the stranger the food trends sound, the faster they spread.
