The Most Unexpected Super Bowl Recipes You Should Try For The Big Game

With the Super Bowl around the corner, food will be at the epicenter of every hangout and watch party. We all know the classic wings, chips and salsa, pizza, and hot dogs, but what happens when we think outside the box?

Skip the expected and instead go for dishes we thought didn’t go together, never heard of, or have gotten tired of but got reinvented according to the times — the Super Bowl is the event to experiment with all these. And luckily, TikTok has a ton of not-so-traditional Super Bowl recipes to try.

These recipes give a new twist to old classics, such as chocolate football strawberries, cheesesteak sliders, and pinchas de pollo. These dishes are great for a quick snack, appetizer, or a full-on dinner to indulge in while cheering on the Seahawks or Patriots. You can combine flavors from different parts of the world and enjoy a taste of Puerto Rican culture.

Spring Roll Nachos

@stephvnietea

EP. 5 TAKEOUT TOUCHDOWNS. Save this recipe for Super Bowl Sunday! 🏈 Deconstructed Egg Rolls in nacho form is SO good! ➡️ Recipe: Egg Roll Nachos Serves 6-8 Filling — * 1 lb ground pork, chicken or turkey * 1 tbsp cooking oil * 1/2 tsp kosher salt * 1/2 tsp garlic powder * 1/4 tsp ginger powder * 1/4 tsp black pepper * 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced (~half a cabbage head) * 3 cups purple cabbage, thinly sliced * 1 medium onion, thinly sliced * 1 medium carrot, shredded * 3 tbsp oyster sauce * 2 tbsp soy sauce * 1 tsp sugar * 1/2 tsp black pepper * Optional: 1 tsp sesame oil, for finishing * 3 green onion stalks, thinly sliced for garnish Chips— * 1 package wonton wrappers, cut diagonally * 2 cup frying oil, peanut or canola oil Sauces— * Choice of sweet chili sauce or sweet and sour sauce * Spicy mayo: 1/3 cup kewpie mayo + 1-2 tbsp sriracha 1. Heat frying oil in a large pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F. Fry the wonton wrappers in batches of 3–4, flipping each one so they cook evenly, until lightly golden and crispy. Remove from the oil and set aside on a plate. 2. In a large wok, heat a little cooking oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground pork and cook, breaking it up as you go. Season with salt, garlic powder, ginger powder, and black pepper. 3. Once the pork is fully cooked, add the onions and carrots. Sauté for about 2 minutes, just until the onions become slightly translucent. Add both cabbages and season with oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Stir everything together until the vegetables are tender but not mushy. Sesame oil can be added here if you like (optional). Finish with sliced green onions. 4. To serve, spoon the filling into a large serving dish. Keep the crispy wonton chips separate so they don’t get soggy, and serve with spicy mayo and sweet chili sauce on the side for drizzling. Enjoy! #superbowlfood #superbowl #eggrolls #eggrollnachos #easyrecipes

Jalapeño Popper Focaccia

@_lacebakes_

🏈 SUPER BREAD for SUPER BOWL 🏈 Jalapeño Popper Focaccia 🧀🌶️ Ingredients 1 batch focaccia dough (page 22 in my cookbook, page 34 in my Focaccia Fundamentals Guide or pinned to top of my page here) Extra virgin olive oil, to line the tray 3 fresh jalapeños, diced finely 4 fresh jalapeños, sliced into rings 330g (12oz) full fat cream cheese 150g (1.5 cups) cheddar cheese, grated 10 strips smoked bacon, cooked crispy (bacon fat reserved) 25g (1/3 cup) panko bread crumbs Flaky sea salt, to taste Method Prepare the focaccia dough according to my recipe instructions. Scatter 1/3 of the diced jalapeños (equivalent to 1 diced jalapeño) over the dough and then stretch and fold the dough to incorporate them. Repeat this for the second set of stretch and folds. Cover the bowl and proof the dough as instructed in the dough recipe. Prepare the cream cheese mixture. Start by cooking your bacon to your desired level of crispiness. Reserve the bacon fat and dice all the bacon into a fine crumb. In a bowl, stir together the cream cheese, 50g (1/2 cup) grated cheese and half of the crispy bacon crumbs. Transfer into a piping bag with a wide open tip if you have one. If you don’t, transfer into a zip top freezer bag and snip one of the corners for piping. Line the baking tray with nonstick parchment paper and generously drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Tip the dough into the tray and gently stretch it out towards the edges. Pipe half of the mixture into the dough and then arrange half of the sliced jalapeños (2 jalapeños worth) over the cream cheese. Fold the dough up into thirds (it should look like a big burrito) and flip it over so the smooth side of the dough is on the top. Cover with an inverted tray or some oiled nonstick parchment paper and proof at room temperature for 1 – 1.5 hours. Near the end of the proofing time, preheat the oven to 220C/430F. Mix together the panko, the remaining chopped bacon, the remaining diced jalapeño (1 jalapeño worth) and 50g (1/2 cup) grated cheese. Sprinkle the mixture over the dough and then drizzle over about 2 tablespoons of the bacon fat. Dimple the dough thoroughly and push the remaining jalapeño rings into the dimples. Bake for 14 minutes. Remove the focaccia from the oven, scatter over the remaining 50g (1/2) cheese and then return to the oven for a further 8-10 minutes. Once it out of the oven, immediately use a thick straw (or similar) to poke holes over the top of the bread. Pipe the second half of the cream cheese mixture into the holes you’ve created. The residual heat from the bread will melt the cheese you’ve just piped in. Wait at least 15 minutes before cutting in to enjoy! #SuperBowl #gamedayfood #superbowlfood #jalapenopopper #chilis #fyp #foodporn #focacciatok #breadtok

For an appetizer, @lalorosenyc’s mini pastelón bites are a great way to celebrate Puerto Rico’s culture. The base made of ripe plantain is mashed into the masa (or dough). Cheese and egg help achieve the creamy texture, and the picadillo (a mixture of ground beef) acts as the filling.  You can include toothpick Puerto Rican flags to the top of the celebration.
